    Student Perspective: PVS students start online classes

    Out of an abundance of caution, PVS has decided to cancel classes and transition to remote learning through Google Classroom. To reduce risk on our campus and protect the health and safety of our community, PVS is taking several precautions to limit coronavirus exposure. In addition to moving to remote learning, all school trips, competitions, and events have either been canceled or postponed.     The St. Jude Science Scholars of Tomorrow Program is a one-day symposium that gives you an exclusive look at science in progress while interacting with researchers and clinicians who apply principles of the scientific method to their innovative work at St. Jude every day.     Pleasant View School pre-kindergarten class celebrated students’ cultural backgrounds with a party on Thursday, March 5. Students in Nargis Sultana and Tracy Owens’ class dressed in their cultural clothes and brought a dish unique to their culture to share with their classmates.     Pleasant View School hosted its first College and Career Night on Thursday, March 5 where students met with various professionals. Students in grades six to 12 participated in the event. 41 career professionals from the following fields attended: engineering, business, education, health and medicine, information technology, communications and graphic design, imams and religious leaders, higher ed/research, nonprofit and law.     Pleasant View School students participated in the high school division of the Science Bowl competition. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Science Bowl is a nationwide academic competition that tests students’ knowledge in all areas of science and mathematics.     IOWA testing is back at PVS

    Pleasant View School students took the annual IOWA test last week to measure student achievement and growth. The IOWA Tests are standardized tests that are used nationally to help school faculty understand student learning standards. These tests monitor growth using a continuous, researched-based, vertical scale to accurately measure academic progress from kindergarten through high school.     PVS students join the St. Jude Leadership Society

    Pleasant View School students have joined the St. Jude Leadership Society working specifically with ALSAC on their leadership skills. Naisha Chowdhury, Deenat Yusuf, Zahra Chowdhury, Jana Elbaid and Eman Yousouf are five of 70 students picked to participate in the program this year.     Fourth-graders learn to work as a team

Afaf Obid and April Jenkins took their classes to the Bluff City Escape Rooms on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Students had to work together to “escape” a room with a central theme.
