On February 13th, the school announced the Mathcounts results from the 2020-21 school year competition. For many years now, PVS students have been competing in Mathcounts, spending one Saturday in February at Southwest College. This year, Mathcounts was held virtually for the first time on February 5-6. Last year, we had our first Arabic spelling competition with the 2nd graders. With the support of CISNA (Council of Islamic Schools in North America) to conduct a National Arabic Spelling Bee, Ms. Ahlam Qaddoumi became inspired to bring this competition to the school after joining CISNA as a committee member. The National Science Bowl (NSB), sponsored by The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is an academic science and math knowledge competition for high school students across the nation. Before the national competition, one team from each state is chosen to compete in the national competition. Every year, Pleasant View School schedules a date to administer the PSAT. The Preliminary SAT, or PSAT, is a standardized test that tests the knowledge and skills of high school students - freshmen, sophomores, and juniors- in reading and mathematics. PVS administered the PSAT test on January 26, 2021, to 10th Grade students and those in 11th Grade who were not able to attend the October administration. The PSAT has two sections: Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing.

College Board has announced that the 2021 AP exams will have multiple test options. After careful consideration and implementing numerous safety measures, Pleasant View School has begun offering an optional on-site learning program. All elementary students had the option in mid-February to sign up for the on-site program that began on March 1. A total of 83 students opted for the on-site program and 99 opted to remain with the remote learning program. On a cold winter Memphis morning, PVS students joined 901 Ummah’s Feed the Ummah at First Presbyterian Church to distribute winter relief packages alongside 901 Ummah’s distribution of hot meals. This year, Memphis faced one of the harshest snow/ice/wind storms. Thousands lost electricity and even more lost access to clean water.
